LeRoc is a form of Modern Jive, a dance style that was derived in the 1980s from dances including Swing, Lindy Hop and Rock and Roll. The main feature of modern jive is simple footwork. According to the particular teacher, it may incorporate elements of other dance styles including Salsa and Tango.

Modern Jive is easy to learn, since the basics are danced without complex footwork or movements. It is fun, easy-to-learn and great to dance socially (“freestyle”). Advance dancers can progress quickly to airsteps, body styling and complicated moves.
